                  A book fair

Book fair is a fair where various types of books are displayed for sale. A book fair is usually held in the month of January and February. In our country it is held in almost all cities and towns. The largest book fair is organized by ‘Bangla Academy’ on the occasion of the 21 February to commemorate the heroic sacrifice of our valiant martyrs. The main purpose of a book fair is not merely sale rather to offer a rare opportunity to assess the advancement made in the publication of books and to analyse recent views compared with previous book fairs .

It helps to create new writers as well as new readers. It inspires people to instigate the habit of reading books. A book fair reminds us that books are our best companions. They change our outlook on life and widen our horizon of knowledge. Again we get these best friends at a cheaper rate from a book fair. In order to organize the fair a committee is formed. The committee makes all the arrangements to makes all the arrangements to make the fair successful. There should have arrangements of refreshments. Seminars and cultural programmes should be arranged. Moreover, strict security measures should be taken. The govt. should encourage the writers and the publishers to publish creative books so that the knowledge seekers can satisfy their thirst. Books should be sold at the reach of mass.We should read books and inspire others to do so.

A book fair is a place where books of various kinds are displayed for sale. It is a very popular fair. In fact, a book fair is considered to be an occasion of great festivity to the book-lovers. It is usually held in the winter season on an open place in most of the major cities of the country. The main thing about a book fair is not sale but the display of books on different subjects. It is organised by various institutions on various occasions, namely, Martyrs Day,

Victory Day, Independence Day etc. The leading publishers of the country set up stalls of their recent publications as well as old ones. Various kinds of novels, poetical works and science fictions are mainly available in a book fair. A festive look prevails all around. The renowned artists, poets, intellectuals gather there and take part in the seminars and cultural programmes. Last year, I paid a visit to the Ekushey Boimela. It is the most popular book fair is that it can play an important role in developing the habit of reading books among the people. It is a device to spread culture, education and knowledge. It changes our outlook on life and widens our domain of learning.

Last year, a book fair was held at Ludhiana. It was organized in the playground of a local college. Different publishers had put up their stalls and displayed their books/publications in these stalls. A large number of publishers including some international publishers like Prentice Hall of India, Orient Longman,  Macmillan, Oxford University Press, Pearson Limited, etc. were participating. Thousands of book-lovers and teachers and students from various institutions all over the state visited the book fair.

Special concessions were given to teachers and libraries. Books on almost all subjects under the sun published by a variety of publishers could be seen under one canopy indifferent temporarily set-up shops. May attractive gifts were also being given with bulk purchases. I visited the fair for 3-4 hours every day and made purchases. I could get some rare books in the fair. The fair provided and excellent opportunity to one and all to buy the books of their choice at one goes. Such book fairs should be organized every year in all major cities of the country.
